It turns out that the Ukrainian protest amnesty that I discussed in Sunday's piece isn't really going to work out--the crowd is still out in full force (around 70,000 people), and "at least" sixteen people are confirmed dead today (WSJ is saying 18 in their piece). The police keep getting beaten back (if they aren't being killed), things are on fire, power's out, city's shut down, etc., etc. Oh, and the Russians are very angry and blame America for all of this.
Thanks to the magic of YouTube, we can all watch it live and free on the internet. Every once in a while they stop to sing hymns or listen to this badass rock 'n' roll band--all in Ukrainian of course--that's there for some reason (they really put Pussy Riot to shame, if you ask me). It really adds a nice eastern touch to the whole tired old "mauling riot police and burning tires" concept.
Keep your eyes peeled; I might tweet updates. Might.
